Welcome, to those who dare enter. You have found your way to The Raven Post. Here you’ll find a most thorough compendium of all things dark and dismal, stories from the miserable to the macabre, and dramas both dastardly and draconian. An ode to all manner of misery can be found within the tabs beyond, in particular short tales and poems from both history and the present day. Even our humble editor-in-chief has contributed a tale or two—or rather, a “tail” (and a feathered one, at that).
“A bit about who we are here at The Raven Post: We are independent writers and editors—and staunch defenders of the Oxford comma—well-versed in storytelling and all its variant forms; we adore an anecdote and will tolerate even the most saccharine poem. Primarily, we are lovers of words, especially those that send a slow-creeping shiver up our collective spine. We began this paper to shine a light upon that which revels in darkness, particularly fiction, but also current events, historical tales, and other happenings in thematic harmony with our more ghoulish inclinations.
“In our archives, should you choose to peruse them, you’ll find stories from Poe, Lovecraft, Wharton, Blackwood, and others, as well as brief biographies on each of these legendary figures providing crucial context for their authorial exploits. We also welcome reader submissions, and should we choose to feature your work, you’ll achieve the honor of joining an ever-growing, electronic anthology of horror’s greatest voices, past and present.
Though we aim to terrify, we hope not to traumatize, and as such, we ask that you exercise caution when engaging with the historical texts included here; many of them espouse or include depictions of racism, misogyny, anti-Semitism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, or otherwise offensive ideologies that we here at The Raven Post disavow. That said, these works are, for better or worse, pivotal in the development of the Western horror canon, and we would be remiss to exclude them entirely, even if we find their ethics at times abhorrent. We exercise a light editorial hand in order to censor harmful epithets and objectionable language, but if you spot an oversight (or have other comments, questions, or concerns), please contact us using the email address found in the “Submissions” tab. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we continue to make The Raven Post a safe, enjoyable place for our readers.
All stripes are welcome here—as are spots, ridges, feathers, scales, and other textures—for horror is best when shared among friends. We hope you enjoy this anthological celebration of Gothic, weird, frightening fiction and all things generally horrifice—in theme, if not in quality. Please do linger a while, but keep your wits about you: You never know what may lurk between the pages.
